Error Applying Security - Failed to Enumerate Objects

I was recently trying to apply some security settings to a folder in Windows. When I clicked OK or Apply I had a Error Applying Security - Failed to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied error for every single file in the folder. Very annoying!

I did some hunting around and came across this article. In this article, the author was unable to delete a folder, but the same process fixes the security/permissions error I was having. The commands are:

  1. Open the command window running as administrator
  2. Run the following commands on the folder in question:
takeown /f "C:\My Folder Path Here" /r /d y
icacls "C:\My Folder Path Here" /grant administrators:F /T

Sorted :) The permissions were then successfully applied.

Windows 7 Telnet is not Recognised

This is so annoying! You go to use telnet on Windows 7, via the command prompt, and you get 'telnet' is not recognized as an internal or external command. There are loads of articles on how to enable telnet on Windows 7 (here's one of many!).

But after having enabled it in programs and features, I was still getting the not recognised error. I checked that I had the telnet.exe file in the C:\Windows\System32 and I did. So I double clicked it and sure enough it pops up and works.

The only other difference is that I need to remember to use the o command to open a connection:

Telnet> o my_domain

Block IP Addresses on Windows Server 2003

A big thank you goes out to CodeHill today for allowing me to find out how to easily block IP addresses with built-in Windows server functionality.

The idea is that you create an IP Security Policy on the server and add each IP, range or subnet to it. Perfect :)

How to Export Scheduled Tasks on Windows Server 2003

If you need to export your scheduled tasks from Windows, like I have just needed to, use this from the command prompt:

schtasks /query /FO CSV /V >sched_tasks.csv

This will output to a comma-delimited file with all the tasks in it to the current folder called sched_tasks.csv.
